Georgia Public Broadcasting is hiring an Executive Producer to lead a staff of producers and interns working on our weekday talk show On Second Thought. We're looking for someone who loves to dig into issues, find the human side of policy debates, and explore a range of topics - politics, environment, education, business, health care, and the arts. The EP is the final editorial arbiter on the show and the lead host whisperer.
Leads a team of producers who use reporting skills to identify potential sources and prepare hosts scripts and background material to help guide live interviews.
Listens carefully to make sure the show sounds as it should, that segments are balanced and fair, and that music is appropriate.
Assures the program meets the requirements of fairness, objectivity and balance. Articulates production and journalistic standards and hold the staff accountable to them.
Oversees the preparation and posting of digital materials to GPBNews.org.
In collaboration with News Managing Editor and Radio Program Director, plans special events like debates, town halls, live performances, etc.
Responds to listener complaints
Handles administrative duties including vacation requests, host scheduling, equipment needs.
Interfaces with other departments to ensure the show has the resources it needs
Actively engages with NPR, PBS, and other national and international program producers and serves as liaison with stations carrying the program.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's Degree in a related field and four years journalism experience required; public radio or similar experience ideal.
Demonstrated ability to identify key developments and distill complex matters. High-level writing and editing skills, especially on the Web.
Experience coaching hosts and other on-air talent on presence and sound.
Ability to work collaboratively, meets deadlines, and juggles multiple tasks.
